The first mention of a weaver’s workshop in Geraki is in a lawsuit of 1847, referring to two shops in the village square owned by Georgitsa Kostourou Papageorgiou. The building containing her weaving workshop still stands today. In a census of 1946, more than 200 active looms were recorded in Geraki, the most significant number in Laconia. In 2024, members of the Gefyra team mapped 92 houses of historic and contemporary weavers in Geraki, witnessing the density of looms in the village. Each point on the map represents the house where a weaver lived or one where a contemporary weaver works.
